Escubedo began life in a small premises in Santa Coloma de Gramenet (Barcelona). The first mould for making electrical terminals emerged out of the effort and the personal creativity of its founders.
The Escubedo company was founded in 1976. This was the first step in a rising path that has led us to what today is a global team. Right from the beginning we have based our work on technical excellence and efficient processes.
When we moved to our production plant of almost 1,000 m2 in Riudellots de la Creu (Girona), we made a great qualitative leap forward. This operation contributed to the rationalisation of processes, the enlargement of our moulding capacities and the establishment of a structure capable of meeting future challenges.
The commercial part of the business continued to operate for several years from our offices in Barcelona, where our administrative processes were concentrated.
Escubedo goes a step forward and starts producing connection systems according to customer requirements.
Moreover, we obtain the ISO 9002/2000 certificate, which all our sites have too. All of our manufacturing processes are based on auto-control, following strict quality control standards. In this way we have obtained several quality certifications.
Intending to expand around the world and be closer to territorial markets, in the year 2000 we opened our first site in Mexico.
With the purpose of offering the best service and the most innovative products, all the areas of our company were centralised in the plant of Riudellots de la Creu (Girona), which is now Escubedo's corporate headquarters and our focal point for connecting with clients all around the world.
In 2004 we obtained the TS 16949 Certificate, which is fundamental for supplying products to the automotive market. This is one more demonstration of our solid commitment to quality. In the processes that require it, artificial vision systems enable us to guarantee 100% of the products we manufacture. We also have products homologated under the VDE and UL certifications.
In 2006 we created our second international site in Brazil, located in São Paulo, in order to provide direct service to the entire South American market.
Our site in Mexico transitions from being solely for distribution to also becoming a productive manufacturing plant.
In 2009, Escubedo established a site in Sweden in order to be closer to the Scandinavian markets (Sweden, Finland and Norway), and also to serve Denmark and the Baltic countries.
In the same year we also opened a site in Turkey, incorporating a terminal stamping line, the first outside of our premises in Girona.
In 2010, we begin offering plastic injection and overmoulding solutions that combine this technology with metal stamping. Our custom connectors become even more optimized for reliability and cost, always seeking maximum customer satisfaction.
In 2011 we inaugurated our sita in USA, in order to compete directly in the US market, achieving a very high penetration in American companies.
In 2012 Escubedo enlarged its plant in Riudellots de la Creu (Girona) with the aim of improving the mould maintenance department and enlarging the plastic injection plant. The enlargement of 400 m2 means that our total built-up area is now more than 8,000 m2.
In 2014, Escubedo initiated the application of continuous overmoulding processes to stamped terminal strips within our facility. The procedure initiates with the fabrication of metal inserts, which, once produced, are prepared for the overinjection process. Following the completion of overinjection, the components undergo scrutiny via a vision control system, ensuring a 100% verification of the entire batch. The final step involves a cutting station for precise finishing.
After several years collaborating with Shanghai Welconn Company, Escubedo reaches an agreement to serve all of the clients in China through a site in Asia. The transfer from Shanghai Welconn to the Escubedo site was completed before the end of 2015.
Escubedo's facilities in Girona will grow by 7,000 m². With the purchase of more than 50,000 m² of land adjacent to the facilities, work on extending the facilities began in September 2017.
The project involved building three main blocks: new 1,000 m² corporate offices, a 3,000 m² warehouse for storage, and another 3,000 m² warehouse home to the engineering department and the mould and tool manufacturing areas and plastic injection sites.
The new corporate offices and industrial premises in Girona are working at full capacity. The change has meant a qualitative leap for all departments in different aspects: we have more space, as we now have 7,000 m² more, and we have automated and optimised the logistics processes.
Escubedo began its journey in Turkey in 1991, where a site was created in 2009. We then were able to merge Escubedo’s technology with local production facilities to tailor our manufacturing efforts to the Turkish market.
In 2021, Escubedo acquired and incorporated the connector division of Bimed Teknik, including the areas of Sales, R&D, Manufacturing, Laboratory and Colombo Sergio (CS) distributorship.
